hair nightmare!

Since arriving in HK i had my hair cut short with a blonde and caramel highlights i am brunette. I went back to the same expensive reccomended hairdresser who has ruined my hair. I had four differnt colour highlights ranging from what looked like orange to a white blonde that made me look grey. I went to another expensive reccomended hairdresser who put an all over medium brown tint on to my hair. Now my hair looks coppper or burnt metal! as my daughter kindly tells me. Can anyone reccomend a hairdresser who can work with brunettes? I can't understand how this happened after spending 3500 on my hair. I would appreciate any advice

abiagil, ai, so sorry to hear this again. I am still amazed at how many times we come across these types of color problems. We must get at leaast 2 to 3 per week its really crazy. I am sure Douglas sees the same.

There are many things to consider when doing coloir corection as Douglas has mentioned but one thing i find many hairdressers in HK do not think about is the long term effects and maintainence whcih is a vital point in any coloring process. When you speak to another stylist make sure there is a long term plan lined out and not just a quick fix.

I agree with Douglas, go and chat to a couple of different stylist to find one that you feel most comfortable with and that is going to take you in the right direction with the least amount of damage.

Thanks for your reply. Where is your salon? I know where Douglas is. I was thinking that i might and should get a couple of consultations this time, instead of jumping in head first!

Thanks

Dear D- Man

I fell really awful to tell you this but my disaster happened at your salon!

Maybe i just picked a stylist who isn't great at colour because the cut was great. Sorry

abiagil, oh thats terrible. If that is the case i would be very happy to take a look and fix it myslef. Color is a complicated process and yes even some of the stylists that work here make mistakes unfortunately. I am glad however you have let me know because if the team here are not meeting client standards I need to know so I can rectify the problems.

Tidings, actually there are quite a few home based colors you can get in HK, SASA has them, Watsons, Manings and there are a few stores in Jordon that have them also. Semi permanent color is not right for everyone though but is generally a safe color alternative if it really is a true semi perminent.

I have had the same negative experience with hair colour in HK. I am brunette and (on a silly whim) decided to go blonde, I came out with a ghastly, nasty yellow! I went to The Hairdressers to have it corrected, and whilst the job was much better, it now looks brassy and I still hate it. I have spent a fortune and am at a loss at what to do because I don't want to damage the condition any further! Abi don't feel alone!

Bluebutton, unfortunately when highlights are done and not lightened enough (which causes it to go yellow) it is impossible to completely correct unless it is converted back to one color. even when this is done the color will fade due to the hair being made lighter and becoming porus from the first process, this can create a brassy as it fades. a combination of lighter highlights and some lowlights will help but there is no guarantee to completely remove all the brassy tones in one sitting. Of course condition is very important so you also dont want to get caught up in over doing it. Sometimes there are limits to what can be done to fis a color in one session. But as you say, at least is is better. Patients are often needed in these cases as it may take more than one or two colors to sort out a mistake.

Bluebutton, i would always be happy to take a look at any time your feeling bad about it and see if there are any other alternatives to. I dont want you walking around unhappy with your hair. Even though its better than before maybe there is something more we can do to make you feel better about it.
