When can baby hold their bottles

Just interested at what month can a baby hold their own bottle or even hold it when we assist.

Mine is 7 months old and he has no interest in holding the bottle. His hands moves all the time mostly playing with his burp towel or bib and using it to rub or cover his face.

I hear friends saying theirs started to hold from 4 months old onwards...

mine is almost 1 yr old and has shown no interest whatsoever in holding her own bottle, self-feeding etc. it's a case of feed me or i won't eat.

my niece on the other hand was reaching for full bottles, lying herself down, plonking it in her mouth and holding them using one hand by 12 months. very self-sufficient.

My first was very interested in eating and using a bottle around 4 months. she held it herself and all. My second one wouldnt do it til she was over a year and i tried to introduce bottles and sippy cups so she could drink juices and such. She Bf til 14 or 15 months i cant remember was a while ago. She didnt want to hold the bottle even thought she was older.

Perhaps your baby wants you to hold it because he relates feeding times to you. You always hold the bottle and so its your job. He will start to get used to it and grab the bottle when he wants it. Each baby is different so keep trying. Put his hand on the bottle might be a start.

Good luck!

At 13 months, mine wants to hold the bottle but doesn't seem to understand the concept of tipping her head back so we end up with me tipping her back and her having her hands on the bottle.

She'll hold a straw cup and drink from that just fine though - but perhaps the fact that can be held vertically just adds to her confusion!!

She wasn't even trying at 7 months though.

mine is 12 mths and still can't hold his bottle!

but he holds his straw cup beautifully, which i think is more important because you'll want to wean the bottle off eventually.

my little man is almost 16 months and is just plain lazy when it comes to holding the bottle. he's known how to hold the bottle for months but chooses not to - he would much rather mummy do it. he will do when he has to though. however, he loves the straw cup and so has absolutely no problem running off with that and drinking form it. the downside is, is that he loves drinking out the straw so much that he'll drink all the water in the cup and then lose his appetite!

LOL cute Squiggles!!

My girls didnt get the straw thing for some time. Prefering the bottle or sippy cup. However, when they did oh my you couldnt get that cup out of their hands!!!!

i think for the most part the child wants to have mommy hold the bottle due to relating drinking/eating with mommy. Similar to that of nursing i believe. So either way your child gets to bond with you.

Mine is still pretty young as opposed to all yours. Tried the sippy cup thing and he does hold onto the handles for a very short while but not very good at drinking from it. Guess the time will come when he wants to hold his bottle.
