It seems to be the only way to get my but moving that I did not try yet. Yes, I need to lose 15+kg and I think I need someone really scary with a big stick to chase me around.

A) What is the cost of hiring a personal trainer?

B) I prefer not to get a gym membership.

C) Would they come to my estate - free basic gym in clubhouse - or is that too much to ask?

35y/o female.

Holykimhk,

I remember you were the pool player who challenged Rocky.

and BTW are you not the PT who had sent info about yourself when I was looking to hire a PT.

Are you suggesting that some PTs might be posting here pretending to be "happy customers"?

Please support our advertisers:
Yoyo06 19 yrs ago
I am not suggesting that at all. What I am saying is Holykimhk is a PT as he himself has claimed that on many occassions giving advice, claiming he is a PT not only on xpat but also on geo.

I rest my case. thats all nothing else

Hi all. I am a personal trainer (I am not looking for business) and would like to comment on this thread.

I do think it is unethical to pretend to be a client who has lost x amount of weight in x months and being outed is what you deserve. These personal trainers give the decent ones a bad name and give rise to distrust amongst the population across the board. There is no need to lie just tell the thread you are a PT and go from there.

Prices: Expect to pay $500-$800 per session.

I would ask their committment to continual education. this will indicate their passion and interest for clients not just seeing you as dollar signs.

Services: Avoid a trainer who does not perform a health history questionnaire, some form of posture, flexibility and stability assessment. This establishes what are correct exercise choices for you and a starting place for your fitness. The programme should change every 2-6 weeks so you have progressive development.

Ask for an trial session see if you are compatible. I think it is fair to pay for it and then if it works explore multi-session options.

PTs who use phones continually through your sessions do not have your best interest in heart. Odd exceptions and they should ask permission first.

Many PTs travel to clients. It is fair to pay extra for taxis or travel time as the time they travel to and fro they could have another client at a permanent base. (This could account for the 30-40% commission the commercial gym charges for use of facilties).

A fair committment to a trainer would be three months. For your goals you will need diet advice, weight training 2-4 times per week and cardio vascular of 20-60 mins 3-4 times per week. It's up to your budget how much you do with a trainer. A trap that people fall into is that they only exercise with a trainer and when either you or your trainer are away no exercise occurs.

Kevin Rushton runs Optimum Performance Studio in Wellington street and hasa number of personal trainers go through his doors with courses that he runs. Contact him and ask him to see if he will point one or two your way.

Lastly I am most interested in the methods used to lose 16 kg in 4 months. Whilst safe fat lose is .5-1.5kg per week this (especially in HK) more than difficult to achieve.

Thanks for the opportunity to comment on this more and more contentious issue of what personal trainers charge, do and do not do.

Thanks Bodyactive,

Is there something like a "better business bureau" or professional organization where the PT need to register and we might be able to verify their references?

jflooking: ask the trainer for his certificates, and any references.most good trainers will hold international certificates and wont mind giving any references.

Im a personal trainer and i agree with all stuff that bodyactive said. You have to train 2-4 times a week( either with trainer or on your own) weights and cardio 2-3 times a weeek for 25-40 minutes.

Have a trial session and see wether you enjoy the trainer and the session.

Good luck

There is no real governing body for personal training world wide. REPS is the closest and covers New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

Some trainers al;ign themselves with education companies and those companies hold their profile on their website.

For example www.chekinstitute.com - search for a practitioner near you - hong kong

or www.ptonthenet.com

I also want to thank bodyactive- there are at least 3 trainers on this thread using alias' who consistently recommend themselves under false pretences. as a pt i find this unethical and some of the claims are ridiculous. as bodyactive says- check for certificates, REPS is a government controlled agency for standards- certainly in the UK a PT is qualified to the same REPS level as a physiotherapist- that is the standard you should expect, it's your body and your health don't accept anything but the best.
