some things to take into consideration

from the news yesterday:

2007-03-15 HKT 14:57

RTHK.

The Consumer Council says that manufacturers of dehumidifiers sold locally have exaggerated their performance capacity. It says that five of the ten models tested were found to operate at between one-and-15-percent below the the levels claimed. The council also said the safety standards of three of them were also not satisfactory.

Thanks AYM and Granite - will do some legwork over the w/end and buy one - both helpful replies. Had seen the ones in Japan Home store but the sales person had limited English to help with my questions - like automatic cut off, and how long to keep them running for, at night or best thru the day....all new to me! Thanks again

What capacity dehumidifiers have other people bought for their square footage?

In fortress thet a advised that the top of the range model (26Litres) would be enough for a 500sq ft appartment so we should get too for 800sq ft.

Can anyone advise??

I am happy with my panasonic, the main things to look for are :

- capacity

- noise level

- auto cut-off

- running modes (e.g. Sensor, which will automatically turn on/off depending on current humidity levels)

For the capacity, just check the manufacturer's website, it will list room sizes/capacity..
