If he does not have a wedding registry for gifts, here is an idea which takes some research, but is fun!
Google
Find a nice restaurant or experience he and his wife can share in that area - maybe a plane ride, hot air baloon, a romantic dinner, a spa weekend, etc...
Then call the venue and ask if you can arrange a gift certificate and pay via credit card.
We did this for our sister in law who was married in the UK but had her honeymoon in San Francisco and they said they loved their gift. We arranged a sea plane ride through http://www.reallifegifts.com/ and a restaurant booking direct with the restaurant.
We didn't tell them what the gift was, just to dress nicely, but comfortably and bring their camera to a certain location where they were met, then the seaplane ride happened then they took a taxi to the restaurant.
For other friends, we arranged a weekend at a spa with a XXX gift certificate amount that was enough to cover a few treatments and a room.
