Stroller that remains upright when folded?

Hi all,

Now there is a myriad of experience out there - could someone please advise which strollers can stand upright when folded - ie, you don't need to bend down to pick it up (useful when baby is in the other arm?)

Also on the wishlist for the perfect stroller is compact in length when up (our lift is small!!) The maclarens would just squeeze in - they are 104-108cm where our lift is 112cm at its widest..

And fairly high handles (I'm 5'9", hubby is 6'2)

Looking for any suggestions - and where is the best place to buy - fortunately hubby is an international shopper ;)

Ta!

haha...the elusive perfect pushchair

can't help you with that but if you want one hand fold, combi is your best bet. it's pretty narrow too.

downside though is the pathetic basket/canopy and the handles aren't very high.

which is why i have a combi for when i am alone, which is one hand fold and can stand on its own (with some practice) and a mothercare which has higher handles and bigger basket.

My Mclaren Techno XT has extendable handles - v useful for taller people cos I've seen a lot of strollers with low handles.

But of course the techno XT doesn't do what you're actually after, which is stand up - it's a thoroughly recommended stroller though - and v easily fits through turnstiles because it's quite narrow.

Don't buy the Mclaren Techno XT (too difficult to fold up with one hand, too heavy, too difficult to carry, not enough basket space - but nice and sturdy) and don't buy a Combi either (too flimsy and also difficult to carry, can't bump it down the stairs - but easy to fold up with one hand).

Instead buy a Graco EDT - easy to fold up with one hand, easy to carry, good basket space and bumps well down the stairs - and best of all it's cheaper than the others :)

Check out WingOn and Eugene Club for their selections - they have a wide range of prices. Bumps2Babes is also good for the higher end models including Maclaren. In addition Ocean Terminal in TST has many baby shops.

We didn't buy a stroller until baby was 6 months old. The first 6 months we used a sling mostly. You can also get one of the Kolcraft frames that old a baby car seat.

In the first few months you need a stroller that lays flat, this limits the selection, and it usually means heavier strollers. So we waited and finally opted for a Maclaren Quest and are very happy with it.

The Combi/Capella (cheap Korean version of Combi) came in a close second.

The Graco is also cheap and super light weight which was a major attraction for HK.

But they would probably be very uncomfortable for a tall person to push.

We bought a Graco Metrolite from Bumps to Babes, and it's been a great stroller for us. I'm 5'10 and hubby 6'2 (the handle adjusts up and down as well, plus a bonus of 2 cupholders, woo hoo!). The Metrolite also folds with just one hand AND remains upright. It is larger than a Combi, but is really quite light, it's great!

We also bought the Graco Autobaby carseat that clicks into the stroller and acts as a travel system, very cool. Our baby is now 3 months and it's a stroller that we'll use for a long time. Mind you, I don't live in HK but on the Mainland. I go shopping with him in it and stash my groceries in the basket below. It's really easy to maneouvre as well. Not sure if it would be as practical in HK for navigating the busy streets; otherwise we just use our Baby Bjorn for when we visit Central, etc. And the width might be wider than what you stated. Can't give you specifics, but you can go online and look the specs up.

It's been to HK, Tokyo, Hawaii, and Alaska (easy to transport on the planes). We love it!
