I'm exclusively breastfeeding my 4 month old. Want to give one bottle feed a day just for a break. Can't express enough so started formula. At 4 months how do I know the flow is ok for him ? He takes just 1/2 or 1 oz maximum and won't take a drop more than that. Atleast he's taking that much now...a few days ago it was nothing. He obviously doesn't prefer it. He seems to be sucking for a long time and then I see that he's had only 1 oz max. Should I try making the hole on the nipple a bit bigger ?

Like I said in the other thread, my baby also doesn't like bottles (he's 5 months and has been exclusively breastfed with occasional bottle fed with expressed breastmilk). He just started refusing it couple weeks ago. I reckon if it's because of teething so he doesn't prefer teats too hard. Have always been using Avent teats but now trying out some other teats.
My friend also had the same problem with her baby girl of 4 months. She eventually used NUK latex teats and she drinks it. Maybe you could give it a try.

My bub is also 4 months old. I feed her from the breast as well as from a bottle with my milk. She can take up to 5 oz of milk. I use Dr Brown bottles. My bub also refused the bottle at first but I insisted on trying for a few days. She's fine with it now and doesn't seem to be confused anymore. Try and be patient and expect a little crying at first. Good luck!

Ruth, when should I introduce the sippy cup? I'm a little confused by all the training and sippy cups available for babies at different stages. Thanks.

Congratulations on doing such a wonderful job on breast feeding your son !
Breast milk tastes vastly different than formula and I wonder if
this is why your son is only taking a small amount of formula from the bottle .
You might find that you have more success with the baby taking Expressed milk
in the bottle .
A really good trick to help you express breast milk more easily is to feed the baby
on one side and express the other side at the same time . By doing this you are taking advantage
of your let down reflex and able to express more readily .
Don't worry if you only get small amounts at first as expressing is a learned art .
You and your son , would be most welcome to drop in to baby clinic where we can work out some more stratigies to help you .
