My baby has extremely dry skin on her face and body and this morning I discovered some redness on her body. I have been using aqueous cream for awhile and the condition hasn't improved too much. Can anyone provide some good advice? Thanks!

I can really recommend Dream Cream from Lush and also vaseline for the face. It clears my babies dry/chapped skin almost over night.

My baby's dry skin cleared up after I started using Oilatum in his bath. This doubled with using aqueous cream on the very dry patches seemed to do the trick.

I use glycerin on my bubbs mixed with Aqueous cream. Iit made his skin lovely soft and moist - and this baby already has severe eczema... once I treated it with neem I am now maintaining the moisture with a small coating of Glycerin.

Cheers

Agree with Ruth. My baby's eczema was preceeded by extremely dry skin.

Also depends how old your baby is... many babies under 3 or 4 months have pretty bad skin as normal...

Agree with Ruth. If you think it is only dry skin and would try to try something at home before bringing bub to doc, this is what I recommend: buy a tub of emulsifying ointment or vaseline (the former is much better), smear a big tablespoon or two into baby's bathwater and proceed bath as per usual. Do not use soap or cleanser. Beware bub could be slippery. You do not need to wash off all traces of the ointment/vaseline. Leave some on bub's skin then pat dry. I don't know what others think and perhaps my daughter has super dry skin but I find no bath oil - and I have used quite a few - is as moisturising. Why not try for 3 days and see if bub's skin improves?

she's 4 months old and she's exclusively breastfed. I already took her to the doctors and he said she had very dry skin and it was a case of mild eczema. He prescribed aqueous and urea cream which didn't help a lot.

I used all kinds of stuff for myself and my kids. What I found excellent now is, Bioderma (atoderm)... use their gel to wash, and their moisturizing cream.

Oilatum made my kids' eczema worse. Something inside that they are sensitive to I think.

Mustela wasn't even good enough.

I love the Bioderma stuff.... even for myself, I used their cream and masks, excellent results. Less outbreaks of eczema now....

Try Cetaphil. You can get it at Watsons. My daughter had really bad eczema when she was little. She still has it but mostly restricted to the elbow area now. I saw many doctors both in HK and in the US and have tried all kinds of cream including all the ones mentioned above. Cetaphil is what worked the best for her. It was recommended by the doctor in the U.S. So give it a try.

My dermatologist also recommend Cetaphil. I used it and on my two kids with eczema. It works, but I found Bioderma's stuff better. It PREVENTED the outbreaks, while Cetaphil's cream only worked for me, and not the lotion. But on the hot summer days, it's TOO thick and heavy to put on.

Bioderma's baby stuff is available in Bebe Dream, and in some Mannings.

Adult's line is available in most Mannings.

Warning- NOT CHEAP though.

I have experimented though with this line... I used it on the kids for 1 course (that's what they say, 28 days)... then I stopped. The skin was amazingly nice.... then I switched back to my other products, like Mustela, Cetaphil, Numis Med, Shower OIl, johnson and johnson... etc. about 2 weeks later, my kids started having mild eczema outbreaks again. My helpers asked me to put them back on Bioderma because they TOO noticed a difference. So back to Bioderma for 2 weeks, started to be better, by 1 month, NO sign of ANY irritations. No more changing, until it doesn't work again. Because after years of using certain line of products, sometimes your skin needs waking up... needs to switch to something else.

My daughter had very dry skin and quite severe eczema until she was 10 months old approx. I used the Stelatopia products (cream, bath oil and liquid cleaning soap) and it really works for her. Now her skin is fine, I don't need to put anymore cream and eczema is gone. You can found thoses Mustela products from Bumps to Babes but also some Mannings, like the one on Robison Rd, or down the escalator in Central.

My baby had a severe case of eczema from birth to 3 months old. I took her to a dermatologist & he prescribed her a number of creams. For the extremely dry skin, he prescribed Liquid Paraffin 50% in White Soft Paraffin 50%. It's quite oily stuff, but after using for only 2 days, the dry skin became much better. I've been using it for almost 3 weeks & the dry scaly skin has completely healed & is soft & supple. Please note, Paraffin is only used for extremely dry/cracked skin.

SuzieW, just wanted to tell you that Stelatopia (I used for 2 years) and each time I put it on my babies, they scream or cry. I thought they just hated putting on cream. It DID sort of help, (at that time, I had no other better option).... But I found out one time when I had a breakout, I put that cream on myself, where I had cuts or open skin, the cream really really STINGS. I stopped using it ever since. Bioderma, DOES NOT sting even on open cuts. According to my dermatologist and pediatrician, Mustela's products are NOT the best for babies. But if it works for your baby, that's good... however, for severe eczema baby, it's not good to use b/c it hurts.

simplythebest, QV is just the most "common" thing available in pharmacies, I personally found oilatum, mustela, QV, Sebamed, Johnson and Johnson, and ALL OTHER products that are on the market HELP a little bit on Eczema, but Bioderma is the first one that helps it heal, and prevent outbreaks.

Katetam: is it the atoderm line you are using?

Katetam, don't worry about it. Just saw your earlier posting which says Atoderm.

Simplythebest: check out www.bioderma.com.hk it has a list of shops that sell the products. I called the one in causeway base opposite of times square and they have it. The shop is called Derms (I think).

my bub is five months and he had horrendous outbreak of eczema a couple of weeks ago. I brought him to see Dr Lynn Lim at Century Sq. She gave us neem oil and chickweed cream and hurray! now, he has smooth glowing skin!! Also, I used to use Pigeon washing detergent and has now switched to a more environmentally friendly detergent which helps too! One warning - the chickweed cream stinks!...I only apply on his face, chest and arms when he's asleep.
