Hi, a friend of mine is going to the states and she can bring me back some babystuff before my due date.
Any suggestions what i should ask her to buy from the states? I know that baby things there are alot cheaper than in HK.
What i have on mind is the Medela PIS advanced breastpump so far. Is it necessary to get the AVENT sterilizer and Dr Browns bottles (heard it's difficult to get in HK) there as well? Or prices aren't much different? Appreciate your comments. Thank you.

What a nice friend!!
I got my Pump in Style Advanced Metro from the USA and had my parents bring it over, but you need a transformer for it to work here.
You can order from:
>> Christine Cover
christine@mybreastpump.com
>> Babytalk
>> 1-866-998-BABY (toll free)
>> 205-333-1594 (tel)
>> 205-330-8281 (fax)
Christine was great at customer service and totally understood that HK was different than the USA, etc... and was very responsive via email.
You can have it delivered to your friend's house.
Also, take a look at Amazon.com baby section and Target.com baby section for other things you might want.
We bought the NUK steraliser here, no problems at all, there are lots of brands.

Hi Cri, Tks for your comments.
I tried to email Christine (cos i saw your previous post :-), however either my email failed or she didn't reply me. Anyway I will try again.
Re: the transformer, can i buy it here?
Tks

Yes, you can buy the transformer here.
Strange, she ALWAYS respnided to me really fast, maybe see who else is listed on their website.
I also orderd extra breat milk storage bags... I can't remember if it was cheaper through Christine or Target/Amazon...
Did you see the new limited edition PIS Advanced, that bag is sooo nice! (I have the metro bag in black and butter, but that new one in offwhite and black is really nice looking!)

I have an Ameda pump, which is significantly less than the Medela but very good and very very quiet. The Medela unit is very small and compact and smaller than the Ameda which may be a consideration. Both are well regarded in the working mom's world, although I do thing MEdela has more of an edge as they constantly change to adapt to the demands of the working mom.
I think cute towels from www.potterybarnkids.com is a nice gift. Depending on your crib/cot size, you can get sheets in the US. I have a Pali crib which I bought in HK, and all the sheets fit from the US. (the pali crib is slightly smaller than US standard cribs.) So bedding is also really cute in the US and WAY more choices, but you'll be limited by your cot size. (www.potterybarnkids.com)
I brought tons of stuff back and forth from the US to HK (my family lives there) and so if i get more inspired I'll let you know...

Hi joshmomm,
I got that aveeno moisture relief at log-on at $138, they have all the range. Maybe you asked a salesperson, I asked too but she look so surprised on what i am looking for, she said they don't have, so i look around myself and saw it in one section. Too bad my baby's rashes got worst with it, maybe he's allergic to wheat too.

I think in general "decorative" items are far more varied in the US than in HK. So if there are smaller things that you wish to decorate your nursery with, that's a good thing to get there. in HK you're limited to bumps, Jacadi and then overly cartoonish garish looking things which I didn't find particularly inspiring. I did all my bedding there (also target has cute bedding and very affordable - $60HKD for a fitted sheet - AWESOME.) I'm a bit out of the HK loop so I'm not sure exactly what is all there vs. the US - but you have to be a bit selective as your friend is bringing things over...so you can't have the entire STORE!
Books and music are far better there for sure as Joshmom says, and I think there are some teething tablets that people like (I heard from CRJ, so perhaps she will interject) If you want to save some money, vitamins and supplements are cheaper there also - if you can order and have them sent somewhere, it's a good deal. I like www.drugstore.com - I pick up all my generic drugs there and they were much cheaper than HK - polyvisol vitamin drops, prenatal vitamins (which you should continue to take while breastfeeding), any cold medications - I didn't like the ones in SEoul so I got them there...stuff like that.

many thanks to cri, hkcc, joshm, simplytheB,honeypie. I just noted down all your inputs. And will ask my friend if she is okay to bring all those stuff back for me :-))
Is it cheaper to get online then deliver the stuff to her address in the states than having her going to the shops to hunt?

not necessarily cheaper online - but selection is often better. MOst places, if you order enough offer free shipping, but if not, you'd have to pay for shipping.
I guess it'd depend on how good of a friend she is - there are a few friends I'd be willing to traipse around for on my vacation, but there are a few that I would ask them to send it to my address and I would just be the camel bringing it back.

Hylands Teething Tablets are great, I orderd them online, they have earache and other homeopathic tablets as well, but we haven't tried them.
I think YOU ordering online and having them delivered means two things:
1. you are sure to get what you want
2. your friend won't have to run around too much for you.
You can also tell your friend it is okay to unpack the boxes and just throw everything in a duffel bag to make it easier for her to carry back.

Hi joshmomm,
I got it in times square, as what simplythebest described, it's in the left most corner.
When are you giving birth well2?
Can't i get hylands here in HK?

Hi honeypie, due date is mid June. Still have 2months+ to go though.. It is not too early for me to buy babystuff!? I am really excited !!! :-))))
Looking at amazon/ target/ potterybarnkids websites. The towels look so cute :-) Which type i will need and how many i should get? I think i will order some beddings too. But maybe i should buy a cot first in case they don't fit.

We have about 4-6 towels/wash cloths for baby, that is enough. They are sold usually in sets of 3 or 4 I think...

the cot that will fit US stuff is the Pali cot available from 0/3 baby. The mattress is excellent, the cot solid wood, and very very safe. It's stood two kids now, and ours is still GORGEOUS. We bang it, moved it around, went nuts with it - you can make it a "cosleeper" by removing one of the sides and lining it up to your bed - which is another nice feature... it's not cheap though, but you can usually find one second hand on the classifieds, and just invest in a new mattress. You will save a ton of money in bedding because it is SO MUCH cheaper than stuff in HK, and it may be worth it in the long run.

Hi CRJ, okay then. I will just get 2 sets + 2 hooled ones. Tks.
Hi HKCC, I just looked 03 website. But couldn't find it. Maybe i should visit the store at TST. One question, can Pali cot be converted into a toddler bed? I actually don't know whether it's better to get a convertable one or just a simple babycot. Any idea? Tks.

It's been a while since I bought the Pali - maybe 0/3 no longer carries it -call them and make sure - or find out from the pali website who the retailer is now in HK. WE bought ours from TST - they were really nice to us.
the US palis can be turned into a cot with an extra railing on the side - you can also with this one, but there isn't any extra railing available to my knowledge. It would simply be removing one of the sides and just leaving the mattress on the lowest level - so it does offer this flexibility as well.
but ours never got there - we had another baby, and #1 is living on a mattress on the ground now.

We bought a pali chest from Mon Bebe in Sept last yr. It's also available in Eugene Group. Maybe you can take a look there. If you have a Eugene VIP membership, you can get 10-15% discount! Mon Bebe shops can be found in Central, Windor House and TST.
