When people learn that I am going to Davao. People was not supportive because of its muslim heritage. At first I was scared but now I want to ease people with this experience. AFter getting out of the Airport, a Police stop my husband because Smoking is not allowed in/around the Airport and in the City. Taxi, they are happy with small tips or no tips at all. Restaurant the same. Try Pearl FArm Resort and the Eden Garden (you will love this garden - as big as Ocean Park where you can see farms, flowers, horses etc. Tipping in Davao is not necessary but of course its within your conscience. In Manila, Taxi are not even happy with 50-100 tips, they want 500. The streets in Davao is sooooo clean.

Yes but I went there just last Christmas. Bali/Phuket can be dangerous too with bombings etc. And who would ever know that Tsunami would happen in the beautiful island resorts of Thailand and Indonesia.

Yes, I always experienced it in Manila but NOT in Davao and Cebu, my brother's hat was even snatch at the Airport. When I travel alone or even with somebody, the taxi is always asking for more tips, if you dont show any reaction, gosh you should see their face. So the safest place is to get a taxi at the hotel where they will jot down their plate number. My friend was even dropped off in the middle of the night/road in Cavite when she refuse to give 1000 tips. BTW, its peso which means around 80-200 HK$

There is a lot (good and bad) that can be said about the Philippines as a travel destination. Its not as bad as I am reading on this thread.

We have a fair share of clients who love the place, and return to see more.

There are some dangers, a lot of inconveniences, but I seriously doubt that its as chaotic and lawless as described, specially in upscale or urban areas.

Of course in all countries, there are bad and good that will be said. I am not saying Philippines is totally bad. I love the sea and the nature it represents. Its so beautiufl especially Davao,Cebu and Bohol I guess you are one of the lucky ones who didnt experience like I and there are some domestic helpers who experience such too but all I am just trying to say is Be Careful. I always want that our Govt could do much much better with regards to Tourism, law and order especially Drugs ''Shabu" Of Course you have to be one of the poorest to experience the chaotic and lawless life in the Philippines. As a Tourist, you wont experience or feel chaotic because you have the best in life. When I went to Thailand, I was lucky I was not extorted by the Taxi Drivers.
