My partner and I live in Wangjing and in eight months we have only been out of the city twice to visit Badaling and The Summer Palace. As he has a day off work on Wednesday and the weather's improving here we have been thinking about taking a day trip out of Beijing to do something other than visit historic sites. Does anyone have any suggestions of where we can visit in a day? Theme parks, beaches, beauty spots etc... just not a historic site (although we do love them we've had our fill of them recently lol) anything that anyone could suggest would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Liam,
1) Explore the non-tourist part of the Wall
2) Ming Tombs (Chang Ling)
3) Panda Garden at the Beijing Zoo

Parks & Lakes in Beijing itself are worth a visit.
Yuyuantan Park which is behind the Military Museum or Behai Lake is next to Forbidden City.
Or take the express T-train for > an hr's ride to Tianjin to explore the food streets, have a meal at the Radio & TV tower where you get a panoramic view of Tianjin for a day trip.
