Paed. Costs

ORIGINAL POST

I took my six month old to the paed. last week and the costs for the five in one, prevenar and rotorix were over $3000. Is that the norm or am I getting ripped off?

Is there any pead. that you'd recommend that charges a more reasonable price?

Hi, I just got the following vaccines for $2080:DTAP/ IPV + HIB, prevenar, rotarix.Unless I'm missing something, it sounds like you were charged a lot more. I used a paed in Central. I've sent you a private message with his name.

It depends on the doctor. I go to one currently that charges a HK$650 consultation fee every visit in addition to the shots. I know of another who only charges for the vaccinations. The latter is Dr Chiu in Melbourne Plaza. He is/was the on-site paed at Matilda. The shots certainly add up in cost though, even more so for the individual consultation fees that are rarely longer than a few minutes.

if you are HK ID holder - you qualify for free vaccinations with the public system...just sign up for $10 I believe and all vaccination are included.

the only two that you will need to get separately are Hib and prevenar.

Just to let you know... I was going to use the public health system for my baby's shot (I also used it for prenatal visits/ birth). However, my private paed said that I might as well get all my shots privately b/c it would cost just about the same amount to get just HIB vs. 5in1+ HIB...supposedly the costs are directly proportional to the # of different needles, rather than what's bundled into the combined shots...

I got all the shots done at the MCHC, except the DPT which I got as 5 in 1 +HIB here in GZ as it's not in the public immunisation programme. The shots are so expensive it's cheaper for me to make the journey to HK where (because me and bubs are HKPR's) she gets them for free.

I think your doc was perhaps feeding you a line kilwinning.

BTW HKCC what is prevenar?
