Has anyone tried /sent their Ipods to US or UK to get them fixed? It is outrageous that Apple just says its not worth fixing! The newer the models the more unreliable they are my dinosaur model still works but between us (family of 5) we must have bought 15-20 and 3 are sitting dead at home at the moment!

someone just taught me a neat trick. If you ipod becomes unresponsive (ie. will not turn on) hold down the menu button and the centre button for over 5 secs, and your ipod should reset. all your songs will be there. I was about to buy another one but then got told about this little gem of info! (this worked for my nano only!) Good luck. Also there is a service centre in causeway bay for apple (near ikea) if it does not work

Forest, why send them to US or UK? I bought my ipod in the US and when it crashed, took it to the Apple service center in Times Square.
It was within warranty and they got it fixed - (actually replaced) without a warranty card or invoice. They had it all in their system.

when you buy the ipod they log the id no. from the back and that is when your warranty starts to run. You can check on the apple service website whether your ipos is still under warranty at any time.

Also, make sure you always have the latest version of Itunes as well as on the Ipod !

BECOZ they say its not worth it! and of course the warranty's run out! I just hate all the waste if it can be fixed rather than just throw away another item and buy a new one.

Sorry to hear that. That sucks.
May not be very relevant, but have you looked at the other brands such as Creative Zen - Apple has a very high defect rate in the ipods (of course, I could be lynched for suggesting that:) )
