take all the forms of ID you can..

my passport is a bit shabby too, it's been caught in the rain once or twice ..

Yep. Same thing happened to me. My Thai G/F's daughter washed mine. You have to be careful travelling on it as the airline were very uncomfortable about me using it back to HK because they get fined if it's rejected by immigration. I got through immigration without any problem and the Oz embassy fixed it up with a brand new one (from Australia) in a couple of days. Maybe 3 days - I can't remember. A full passport. Maybe you have time for that.
