Can anyone provide advice as to how to break into Hong Kong's newspaperr industry?
I am trying to break into reporting in the UK. My long term plan is to move to HK within the next five years, wondered if anyone could provide any advice on achieving this.

I assume you are referring to English language newspapers. I don't think it's very hard to get an internship or an entry level position at a paper such as The Standard. It helps if you are fluent in Cantonese/Mandarin. If you enroll in a local university journalism programme, it will be no problem at all. The SCMP has a cadet programme with an annual intake. Expect lousy pay. There are 3 major international newspapers with a presence in HK-- FT Asia, Wall Street Journal Asia and IHT. I don't think any of them are making money. The long-term outlook for printed news media is pretty dire. Some of the most prestigious English media outlets in Asia have shut down or scaled back in recent years.
