Slower growth after 7 months??

Bubbs is still breastfed (5:30am, 2:30pm, 6:30pm) with formula once a day at 11:30pm for the last month, plus he's on three solid meals a day. He weighed 9ks at 6months and was 67cm tall. Now at almost 10months he is 10kgs and 72cm tall. he grew very very fast the first 6 months and now seems to have dramatically slowed down.

My question is, is this normal, should I be worried? His sleep has been disturbed because of the eczema and I wonder if this may have affected his growth?

On the plus side, he is sleeping a lot better now we have the darn eczema under control, he is very active and very attentive, eats well, is very responsive and is trying to talk, says hiya, mama, and attempting to say dada. Today he did the sign for "milk"...

He got a lot more active from 7 months and has just started crawling at 9.75 months. He's been trying to pull himself up for a couple of months now and is now quite successful, he can stand and cruise a bit.

Still, I'm quite worried that his growth has slowed so much. Should I talk to his pediatrician or is this a normal pattern when babies get active?

Have a look at the baby weight/age charts. I don't have one handy but you can download one from the WHO website. I know babies' weight gain does slow down a lot after 6 months, because when my 9 month old got weighed about a month ago I thought "that's not much for 6 weeks" but she had only dipped 2% on the chart. Nurse said that's because babies' charts start flattening out after 6 months. But you would need to look at the charts and maybe discuss with your doctor if you think he has fallen too many centiles.

Can't wait for my baby to start returning signs! I remember my first daughter started signing at about 10 months as well.

Thanks :-)). Fantastic that you are signing with your babies too!

I did a quick check on the Babycentre site and it appears he has not fallen on the curve, thank God, whew!

Babycentre has a neat calculator:

http://www.babycenter.com/growthchart/

This is for bubbs at 6 months:

Sex = boy

Age = 6 Months

Length = 67.0 centimeters

Weight = 9.0 kilograms

Head circumference = 45.0 centimeters

Based on the data you submitted, your child falls into the following percentiles:

Length = between 25th and 50th percentile

Weight = between 75th and 90th percentile

Head Circumference = between 75th and 90th percentile

This one is for 10 (though he is a week short of 10)

Sex = boy

Age = 10 Months

Length = 72.0 centimeters

Weight = 10.0 kilograms

Head circumference = 47.0 centimeters

Based on the data you submitted, your child falls into the following percentiles:

Length = between 25th and 50th percentile

Weight = between 50th and 75th percentile

Head Circumference = between 75th and 90th percentile

He has 4 teeth, two upper and two lower!!

I got quite a fright today when I measured his height and weight - weight especially, but I guess put into perspective its not that bad...

if babies grow at the same rate all the way, they will become giants! :)

mine is only slightly more than 9kg at 12.5 months. but he is a happy, healthy child so i am not worried even though his friends are generally 1-2kg heavier.

Thanks Wheelymate. Last checkup I did ask the doctor, he said he was fine, didnt want him to become too big... but I was worried nonetheless - is he absorbing his food, etc etc etc. His poo pretty much comes out looking like what it was when it went in! LOL.
