Phuket in August

Any reasonable priced hotel close to a different beach than Patong. It must have a good spa/gymnasium , food and be child friendly. THe OLd Phuket and Surin come to mind. Anyone stayed there recently and offer opinions on these two resorts or others. (Around HK 500 - 700 a night).

It's a little bit more than your price range (US $150 per night for prepayment), but sounds like the JW Marriott might fit your needs. You can get a 2 bedroom villa there for that price, with 2 bathrooms, living room, and a fully equipped kitchen--so you don't have to eat every single meal at the resort. We stayed there in February and fell in love with the resort--we're going back with friends in August. It is extremely child friendly, since there is a kids's program and a kid's pool. (Everyone's kids were so happy and entertained that we didn't even notice them that much while we were there.) FYI--If you sit through their time share presentation, they give you some free meals, activities, and sometimes even free lodging. It was not bad at all--after about an hour long tour, we told them we weren't interested, and they let us go without a word.
