Hi my friend from the states is here for a few weeks and we just want to do a quick trip to hangzhou. Anyone know anything about the Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway? or any other ways to get there that a cheap and easy. Also anyone who has any information on cheap hotels, we are college students, not exactly rolling in money. Any help at all will be great thanks!

Go to hostelworld.com to check out their international youth hostel at the West Lake.

When I went to WestLake, I met a group of travellers who were staying there. You may need to google to get reviews.

The difference between getting a package (air & hotel) and going on your own can be minimal in some cases.

Try asking your travel agent in Shanghai for their rates on packages to Hangzhou

Hi there,

I just came back from Hangzhou, travel there from shanghai. There are many daily train departures to hangzhou, the shortest time is almost 3 hrs and the longest is about 4.5 hr. The price for bullet train, about 3 hr, is similar to the slow train about 4.5hr. So buy your ticket early to get the better train. At the train station the queue is long so it may be worth getting the hotel to buy the tkt for you at a small fee. The fare for standing passenger is the same for sitting passenger. So if you are late in buying your ticket you will end up standing. This weekend is going to be crowded due to the chinese tomb visitation day. Let me know if you need further help.
