definitly don't want to be paying that much. its just for certifying my academic transcripts to apply for a course here. $1000 seems to be very excessive. at home i would just take them to a JP and its free!

"The Commissioner for Oaths is not empowered under the Oaths and Declaration Ordinance to certify true copy. They are not in a position to ascertain the authenticity of the original document. You may consider attaching the document as an exhibit to the declaration and declare the exhibit is the true copy of the original document. You should consult the relevant organization on whether the declaration will be accepted."

There is no charge for making a declaration.

Most consular offices offer this service.

the commisioner of oaths is who the university told me to use so i guess its acceptable to them. though i know why it wouldn't be acceptable in some circumstances - they don't even look at your origingal documents! very strange. but very quick and easy and the best part was i didn't have to make the trek to central as there was a district office much closer.

thanx everyone for their suggestions.
