Bassinets on planes

Hi all,

We're coming back to hkg in a couple of weeks after spending time here in the U.S visiting family.

I know without a doubt my 7 mth old baby WILL NOT fit in the bassinet the airline provides...he barely fit in it when we came here a couple of mths ago.

I'm trying to find a portable bassinet to use on the plane. Something nylon/mesh that pops open & folds up easy. Like this http://dreamtimebaby.com/fotrbabywcre.html

We'll be sitting in biz class bulkhead, so hopefully we'll have enough leg room for one.

Have any of you ever used your own portable bassinet? If so can you recommend another brand?

I can't imagine holding him for 16+ hrs! Besides that, he loves to lay flat when it bed time. Restless when sleeping in my arms...sigh.

I don't know for sure about the "legal" policies with the airlines. But I am pretty sure you are NOT allowed to use your own bassinet as the bassinets they have for the airlinese are specifically FOR the equipment used. The bassinet has to be strapped with their straps, and fits on the table that folds down. Their point would be ... if your baby is either TOO OLD or TOO BIG to use their bassinets, then your baby should NOT be using any bassinets at all. It's too dangerous.

I used the Baby B'Air only with my baby, and the air stewardess go ballistic. They insist I take it off, and that I just HOLD my baby during take off, one other airline said, I have never seen such a thing, I don't know what it is, but our policy is you must use OUR seat belt, gave me the baby/child seatbelt that loops around MY seatbelt... don't see ANY use of those things in case of turbulence... but I had to use it for them to get off my backs.

I think best option for you is to buy a seat, and bring a car seat for your baby if you don't want to hold him for 16+ hours.

I'll have to call KE and ask about their policies.

KE did'nt have any problem when I used my Baby B'Air to come here.

Not so sure my son would like sitting in a car seat for that length of time...he loves to lay flat.

And besides, the only car seat I have with me is staying here with Grandma.

Can anyone recommend a car seat that airlines allow?

Gezz...traveling used to be fun ;)

Many airlines have their own infant seats like car seats but obviously you would have to purchase an airline seat to be able to use them.

TBH I have just laid my child on the floor on some blankets and pillows at the bulkhead by my feet. When the seat belt sign comes on you have to remove them from the bassinet (or floor!) anyway but with their own seat they can stay strapped in.
