I have been feeding my son solids since 6months. His formula feeds are at 7.30am, 11.30am, 3.30pm, 7.30pm and 11.30pm. Solids at 1-ish pm and 5-ish pm or sometimes later. We have tried feeding him solids before his formula but he is never interested in his milk after resting half an hour to an hour after his solids hence we feed him solids after his milk.
Is this the wrong way in feeding him. Will it be bad for his digestive system? He loves his solids more than his milk.

hi there,
you can try moving up the solids feeding to the 11.30am milk feed using the tier feeding system. feeding half his milk then give solids and finish the remaining milk. do the next solid feeds at 5pm but ensure you feed him not too much that he can't drink a good feed at 7.30pm. How old is your baby? If he is only 7-8 months, while solids will play a bigger part of his life, milk is still the most important and critical to his diet until he turns one.
just to add, the reason why 11.30am feed you do solids so that when you introduce protein, you can drop that milk feed entirely and just feed solids. gradually, as he is older and you introduce breakfast after his 7.30am feed, you can push back the 11.30am solids to say 12noon and this becomes his lunchtime as he becomes a toddler.

Thanks, Wheelymate, baby is 8 mths and 1 wk old. We have already introduced protein food so does that mean I can drop the milk feed at 11.30am. Sometimes I am reluctant as baby's weight is still on the lighter end below the 5 percentile.

ok i read in gina ford's book that when you feed protein, you should drop the milk feed at that solids feeding because milk supposedly prevents the efficient absorption of iron from the meat.
not sure if another member simplythebest who also said this was mentioned in another book too...
ok, if he is having weight issues though, then i say you should get the best advice from your baby's doctor before you follow other's advice on this forum. we are just mums with kids so just sharing our own experiences but if your child has weight issues, you should definitely seek advice from a medical professional and then work out his feeding plan.
good luck!

Thanks Wheelymate, we have spoken to the doctor on this before hence he asked us to introduce protein food like chicken at 7 months. He noticed that our baby was very active too and that this will inturn reduced his weight.
I've tried fish but found that the smell of the fish put him off - do you have any advice. For adults we normally add ginger to reduced the fish taste in our mouth.
Besides that all is normal with baby.
I guess, as long as he is healthy I'm ok on it. Hope that his weight will pick up later.

Hi simplythebest, he did not ask me to drop the 11.30am feed but I am willing to give it a try as this is the time when he only takes in half his bottle and also if it affects the iron absorption. Found out that Vitamin C helps absorb iron. My baby loves his pureed fruit and vegs.
I have always fed baby milk before his solids as I know that he will not take it if I fed him solids first.
