Does anyone know of an Anglican church for a Christening in Hong Kong?(we live in TST,Kowloon but are happy to look anywhere) Can anyone offer advice on the formalities of a Christening? We are new to Hong Kong and not sure how one would go about it all here.

Any advice would be a appreciated :)

I am not sure about Anglican, but in Methodist you need to be a member of the church and attend a baptism course. If you go to a congregation you are not a member of, normally you need a letter of recommendation from your minister.

In my denomination, a parent seeking a Christening must make a commitment to raise the child in the church (i.e. active membership, as evidenced by current activity). The congregation, likewise, when it consents to having the child baptised in their midst, makes a very solemn commitment to that child to nurture it and bring it up in the faith. Even if you know you won't be there forever, there has to be a real and present intent for the "here and now". You won't be able to make this kind of commitment until you find a church you feel very comfortable in. Be reassured, however, that the only rush is from social convention. Take your time to find a place you feel very comfortable with and are willing to commit to! On the other hand, if your main reasons for the christening are related to family expectations, then perhaps you should consider taking the child back "home" (or waiting until you are home next time) for the ceremony so that the mutual commitments and promises can all be made by family members and the close friends whom you expect to keep in touch with the child over a lifetime. In hindsight, I wished I had taken my child "back home" since we left the place she was christened only a few months later and have never been back. I feel in a sense that I deprived my family of the joy of the occasion for no good reason. For the second two, even though we weren't near our "home," we were very active and committed in a loving congregation which did, indeed, make good on the promise and continues to nurture them long distance to this day.
