Dark circles

Hi there, I have always suffered from very dark circles under my eyes (no bags though). No amount of sleep, water, creams etc seem to work. Any ideas to reduce/remove would be great. Am willing to give anything a go as I'm starting to look really old and tired in the 6 months since moving to HK. Thanks, Rosa

There's something so pure and clean about cucumber. It has been used in skincare for years, yet is a bit of an unsung hero. It's taken for granted because it does its job gently and without any fuss. Cucumber is a natural diuretic, which is why it's so commonly added to eye gels - there is sense to the old trick of depuffing eyes with a slice of cucumber. It's a gentle cleanser, soother and skin hydrator, which makes it a useful addition to cleansers and toners.

Where to find it

# Palmer Cutler Cucumber Exfoliant, from 4 (www.palmercutler.com), here, cucumber extract has a pH neutral effect on the skin as well as a soothing, hydrating benefit.

# Omorovicza Reviving Eye Cream, 65 uses cucumber to refresh and soothe, together with arnica to help reduce puffiness and lucern oil to work on dark circles.

# RMK Face Protector, 21, cucumber is used for it's hydrating, astringent benefits alongside aloe and camomile - a gentle moisturiser that also has a sunscreen.

# Boots Cucumber Facial Wipes, 2.29 for 30, an absolute must have for those late nights when you can't face a full cleanse these are refreshing and soothing.

If you have dark circles under your eyes, they're usually physiological, and can't be erased completely. The good news is that you can make them fade using the right products.Check out 'shark-infested' products: Estee Lauder's Uncircle and Clinique's All About Eyes

if your eye circles are due to pigmentation and not visible blood vessels under the thin skin around eye area, then you should see a dermatologist for a cream to lighten the pigmentation.

I have heard IPL works well on eye circles, but it will cost you.

Hi Rosa,

I've heard that dark circles under the eyes are often a sign of a vitamin or nutrient deficiency. I also have dark circles under my eyes. I recommend seeing a nateopathic practicioner and doing some research about nutrition. If you can minimize the dark circles through diet then a bit of concealer (I like Maybeline 3-in-1 sticks) can usually do the rest.

I also recommend books on nutrition and detoxification by Dr. Don Colbert. Usually you can heal your body of many things through changing your diet.

Hope this helps.

Use a yellowish concealer. The colour helps to neutralise the purple-blue circles (the colours are opposites). I use a really yellow shade, and then blend a little face makeup at the edges and the difference is like night and day.

Dark circle are very hard to treat because most of the time they are part of your gens. Alot of time more people in your family also haven them. Some people get them when tired and then a good night sleep helps in that occation.

I do IPL for permanent hair removal (in my practice) and this works great I have been doing it for more than 6 year with great results.

But for dark circle not that good. I don't do it but I have some Colleagues of mine that do it, the results are very mixed and not always satisfact that why I don't do it in the practise.

cheers Micky

Hi Rosa, sounds like you might have a hidden allergy. Best to see a Naet specialist. Ivan Ho at the Body group is excellent. Sorry don't have the number but they are located in central. It worked for me. I found out I had an allergy to vitamin C and i always started my day with a glass of OJ. Once i knew he helped to correct the allergy through a series of treaments and now I feel and look fab. I have loads more energy too...bonus. Couldn't hurt to check it out. Good luck

Rosa71, book a moxibuction appointment at Frederics Spa. The best ever treatment and super effective. The therapist circles your eye area with a burning herbal stick, which looks like charcaol. The herbs and heat open up the blood vessels. Amazing results. They also apply a eye mask at the end of the treatment.

I have heard that most of this is genetic and there is not a great deal of products to help. I also have been advised that a well respected plastic surgeon (usa) is ready to release his own formula to try to address this issue. It's nearly ready for public use (few weeks away) and if anyone is interested I can post it here when it's available and where to access it.

Thank you for all your replies and suggestions. I'm now using covermark and it's certainly the best concealer I've used. Where is Frederics Spa? I think I may try the moxibuction treatment and maybe see if I do have any allergies. Does anybody know where I can get tested on Kowloon side? I've tried Hylexin and my skin started to fall off! Thanks again, Rosa
