What is the average pay for a part-time proof-reader? The work is mainly story books for teenagers.

Thanks

How many pages are you looking at getting done?

If it's only 50 pages or so of storybook text, I doubt youi'll find anyone decent who will think it economical to proof it. If it's steady stream or you have a bulk lot, you'll have better luck.

As for pricing: I did proofing at uni, mainly for engineering PhDs. I used to charge AUD2/page (HKD12/page). I'd assume that in HK you'd pay substantially more. I had a ready market and would average a PhD or Masters every 2 weeks from various faculties. People doing it for a crust will charge more; I should have, but it was just a part time cash in hand job at uni.

I only did theses, as it wasn't worth the hassle/time (pick up, delivery etc) to do anything less than about 50 pages for a customer.

You could head to one of the English departments at a uni here and look on the bulletin boards/ask some grad students if they'd be interested.

I've done proof-reading before at $300 per hour, that was a couple of years ago and it seemed to be about the going rate then. Not sure if that helps much!
