Hello,

My helper just told me that she should've been off Friday and today as Donald Tsang declared these days holidays and that we owe her and have to pay her extra. Do you know if this is the case? thanks.

Your helper either received bad information or thinks you are a sucker and pulling one on you. The only statutory holiday in April is Thursday (Ching Ming). Good Friday and Easter Monday are not statutory holidays. Those are general holidays. Understand the difference. http://www.info.gov.hk/info/holiday_e.htm

If my helper started telling me these BS stories, I would remember it if I was ever on the fence regarding her employment with me.

I got confused too when I arrive in Hong Kong. It is the difference between general holidays (public) and statutory holiday. Overseas Domestic helpers are entitled to statutory holidays only. I do not know for local domestic helpers. So on the above link from the government think about clicking the two sections (public and statutory). Hope this helps to dissolve a misunderstanding.

As for the banks, they are no worse here than in any other country.
