Just returned from a weekend here and am curious.... Anyone know what the young chinese wandering around in groups of 2 or 3 are after? They started with a "hello, how are you, where are you from" and then ask all about you and tell all about them. We only spoke to the first group that approached us and ignored the rest as realised there must be a con in there somewhere but have no idea what.

My advice is to decline whatever offers they give and walk away. Their intention can end up more problematic than you can imagine. Offers can be:

1.Accompany you, show around etc and then have a meal which you will end up paying $$$ and they will get a cut from the restaurant.

2. Prostitution

3. Curious if you look "different", so they want to know about you, your travel etc.

Usually, they hang about in the busy touristy parts like Nanjing Lu. I had encountered this several times, by myself or with my hubby.

The gals can even offer " a good time" to my husband, even when I am with him.

My visitors had shared that they were sort of "singled out" and then approached with offer#1 or #2.

Thanks Samros, we did ignore them all after the first one approached us on realising there must be more to it than No 3 above. They did tell my husband he would be very popular...
