hi folks, what is the (politically correct speaking) “preferred” interview attire by companies here in hk? is colored long sleeves & tie offensive here or not? just wondering…
any suggestions would be appreciated.
i’m just new here with less than one year stay yet.
thanks.

colored sleeves? i have whites here. i'm just thinking about the worst case when my whites are up for laundry and what's left are my colored. i mean orange, pink, light blue, maroon, checkered blue. are these colors/designs no-nos here or acceptable?

I think it really depends on the company and the job.
If it is a traditional/conservative company - Jardines, MTR, etc... then stick with a white shirt for sure.
If it is a creative design or firm, go for your colours.
To be safe, always best to dress MORE conservative for your interview and show you made an effort, even if the office is a casual office after you start.
Since you have whites here, go for that - surely you have enough for the interviews... after you start you can see your colleagues and decide if you can 'test' out your coloured/patterned shirts (which are more common/popular these days anyway). HK is a great place to get shirts made, so not a problem if you don't have the 'right' kind.. easy to fix :)
And GOOD LUCK!

If you havent got a white shirt then I would say next best option is a light blue shirt. A tie is a must. I think its best to remain conservative, but as others have said its depends on the role and the company you are interviewing for.
