Please offer advice for getting my active 6 yr old to read rather than play. He likes to listen to me read, but I'm looking for new ideas for getting him to read. Thank you!!

Boys are well known for being backwards in coming forwards to read, they need a bit of a push so buy books on Pirates, Movie Characters he likes, Captain Underpants (boys love this).......and you'll soon find that he will be going for books over toys. Good Luck.

Hi notmeok,
I am a Private English tutor and I have some experience in teaching kids how to read. I agree with Ruth at Clifford in that you need to find books that your son is interested. I have also noticed that often times, I find that kids want to read but find it very frustrating especially when they see a lot of "big words" or words they cannot understand.
