What's the best way, ie., most economical way of flying from HK to Bangkok, Ko Samui, Phuket, Bangkok then back to Hong Kong? Is it better to book here, or arrange local flights in Thailand? For great pools, can anyone recommend hotels for a family with teens? Have been to the Dusit Laguna and liked it, but would like somewhere nearer some action with watersports and boat daytrips etc. Any help much appreciated........

To and from Koh Samui you only have one option: Bangkok Air. They are the only ones that fly in and out of there. Go to their web site and look for a promotional fare. You can get direct flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui, then Koh Samui to Phuket. Dragon Air does have a direct flight from Phuket to/from Hong Kong if you do not have to go through Bangkok. If you do want to fly from Phuket to Bangkok, you have several options: Thai Air, Bangkok Air, Nok Air, One,two, Go etc...On our last trip, we found the cheapest fare on Nok Air. From Hong Kong to Bangkok, I'm sure there are endless options.

For a hotel in Phuket, I can't say enough about the JW Marriott. It has several pools, each with their own "vibe". We saw many teens there having a great time: some even got their scuba license there. They have snorkeling, hobecrafts, sailing, waverunners, etc...The food is great, and you can get a great rate on a 2br/2ba villa that has a kitchen and living room. It is about a 20-30 minute drive to get into Phuket Town or to the boats that go to Phi Phi Island, but with so much at the resort itself you will probably only want to go out for one day.

Thank you, that's excellent information! Have you been to Koh Samui? Any hotel suggestions there? We've stayed in various hotels in Bangkok but it seems all the good pools there are by the riverside and I'd love something downtown.

When we went to Koh Samui in February we were travelling with friends who had a very small budget, so we stayed in a place called "The Smilehouse Resort". We were actually pleasantly surprised by it...Our room was extremely clean, only cost around US$50 a night, and included breakfast. I wouldn't recommend it for teens, though. It was a very low-key quiet place, and there wasn't much to do except lay in the sun and eat. (The hotel was in an area called "Fisherman's Village/Wharf", so there were many excellent seafood restaurants.)

There is a lot to do on the island itself. We rented scooters for about US$4 a day and used those to get around. After we left, our friends went on a "zip line" course and rented wave runners--they said they had a great time doing those things.

The only placed we have stayed in Bangkok is the JW Mariott (because of it's proximity to one of the factories that my husband has to visit.) The pool is pretty, but does not get a lot of good sun and it's really noisy in that area.

I know, I've stayed in the Mariott bangkok too. The staff were superb, but the pools a bit dull! Samui is difficult as I've checked out SO many hotels and found bad write-ups on them. I've been to the website of the JW in Phuket and it looks fantastic, thank you again!
