End of year farewell bash

We are planning for a farewell party for some of employees, (adults) some of which have been in our office for over 20 years. WE can arrange a restaurant meal, outdoor barbecue or a tram trip but wish this to be special. 40 people involved. Any suggestions for an end of year bash with a big difference. Theme/location/ideas appreciated.
