Summer hols with kids monsoon seasons

Can any help me decide where is a good holiday location for end of July/August with young kids in mind? I've experienced rains in Phuket when on holiday and dont want to make the same mistake. I've been to Kota Kinabalu last year, Phuket - been there 3 times so looking for somewhere new. I'm on a tight budget so think Bali will be too expensive once you put air fare and hotel package together. Any Mums got any ideas for me where I can relax in some sunshine with the family that is out of Hong Kong?

Sorry to jump in on your thread but we were thinking of going over to Kota in June with our LO of 15 months. Do you think its a good destination with a baby? Where did you stay?


Looking for somewher to go not too far from HK that has nice beaches, good hotel pool and things for the LO to see. Is there a nature reserve there?

We stayed at Shangri La Tanjung Aru in KK. It was absolutely fab and would highly recommend it. Its not far from the airport and its near to the town if you want to leave the confines of the hotel. There were lots of boat trips but our little one was just over 1yr and decided it was easier to stay put. You can use their sister hotel - Rasa Ria where the orangatans can be see.


The hotel had lots of activities going on led by a great team leader called Rohann. Food was great but we often got a taxi down to the waterfront in town (in the evenings) where you will also find a good filipina market which closes at 6pm - full of handicrafts but not suitable for a buggy.


Also had a few nice babysitters since our little one needed bed by 7/7.30pm which were about $15 an hour.


Will definitely go back.
