Has your wife had a full array of medical tests, including hormone levels? My daughter started to get acne at 15, and, due to some other symptoms, ended up being treated by an edicrinologist. She has a hormonal condition - polycystic ovary syndrome - which is not that uncommon - which can cause acne. The medication varies (and can be a combination of several) but when hormone levels were improved to normal levels, her acne disappeared. As I had acne in my teens, and later in my 30s (when I went on Accutane - which worked) I may very well have suffered from PCOS myself.
I highly recommend a full medical work-up - by a specialist, such as an edicrinologist (I don't know of any in HK, however). I just do not believe many dermatologists look beyond treating the symptoms - in fact, the week before my daughter's first edicrinologist visit, I'd taken her to a dermatologist, who blithely prescribed antibiotics for her acne, not considering an underlying problem.
Good luck. I personally know how very difficult acne can be to one's self-esteem.

Usually vsiiting a dermatologist is the answer. They can either prescribe medications such as certain contraceptive pills that reduce peoples production of sebum (which clogs the skin and creates acne) or stronger meds such as tetracyclines or retanoids. I would try again with a dermatologist because it really can make people very self concious and effect self esteem.

Acne can be controlled through an anti-inflammatory diet and the aid of supplements and good products. Try Dr Murad products, he is one of the top 3 dermatologists in the USA and a pharmacist. His Acne range or Blemish range is fab and so are the facials. Plus he has a supplement called Skin Clarity which addresses your internal skin cae whilst the products address external skincare. Good luck.

I've been using an antibiotic called Tetralysal (300 mg) for the past 3 months and it's really helped to clear up my skin. Unfortunately, I can only use it for 6 months and have to wait and see what happens afterwards.

I`ve had relatively mild acne for over 20 years - hereditary and hormonal (it cleared when I was pregnant !). Best things for me were Dianette contraceptive pill (proper name - Cyproterone acetate/Ethinylestradiol) and, at one point, I was prescribed Roaccutane, the strongest and most effective drug there is. HOWEVER, there are possible side effects with both of these and Roaccutane, certainly in UK, can only be prescribed by a dermatologist in a hospital. You must not get pregnant whilst taking it as it causes deformities in the foetus - that`s how strong it is. Since I had my baby my oily, spotty skin has returned. Have been back on Dianette for a month and already less oily and spotty. Good luck.

At her age, severe acne is usually linked to hormonal imbalance. Let her see an endocrinologist, to assess her hormone levels, and cure her.
Especially as she has already seen dermatologist, correctly take off her make up, etc. , which means she probably tried every other things around, including antibiotics and other stomach lining damaging stuffs.
Fixing hormonal problem is easy (usually the pill or another hormonal c*cktail) and can avoid her other troubles (such as breast/uterine cysts, etc.)and quite fast (a few months gets you a much better skin)
It's really no big deal and can have other positive side effects.
And, at the end of the day, the endocrinologist & treatment may prove way less expensive than facials & top notch creams & dermatologist prescriptions....
Good luck

The best thing for your wifes acne is a series of colonics. I too had awful acne and spent a fortune on products I wish someone told me sooner that my toxic gut was responsible. I now have beautiful skin and am very happy, please tell your wife to try this!!!

deena can you PM me about these colonics? I also need it, I am suffering from serious acne for the past years. My doctor don't want to prescribe me Roaccutane, he said its a dangerous stuff, many side effects.

Hi abby78,
your doctor is a smart man not to give you this dangerous drug. There is a colonic centre in hong kong at 2/f 100 peak rd
the peak
28825533 website www.hydrohealth.com.hk
Please give this a go you only need about 3 treatments and your acne will start to clear after the first treatment, mine did. I can even go to bed with makeup on and no acne. I spent a fortune on lots of lotions and potions but the problem is in with the bowels and the toxins accumalting in there that is making your skin toxic.
Please try this as I know it is the only true solution to the problem, you wont regret it!!!

Yes, Roaccutane is a very powerful drug, dangerous if misused, and it doesn't work for everyone. But for some people it is the ONLY thing that works. For someone with cystic acne, the normal 'potions and lotions' just don't work.
Acne can have lots of causes and lots of solutions. What works for one person will fail for another. I've had pimples (not cystic acne) for over 30 years, and the Diane brand of contraceptive pill works for me, but it has its own set of side effects and I may soon seek an alternative. (Probably not colonics though!)

believe it or not hkkm not all solutions to lifes problems can be solved by taking pills, in this way you are just telling your body to shut up. The problem(acne) came on naturally and it can clear up naturally, you just have to take a more active role and take control of your life and health!!
Instead of making the pharmaceautical companies wealthy , save your money and health and research everything! The contraceptive pill will screw up your hormones big time and give you a real moody menapause when the time comes, get off the pills, be brave and face the reality of your health and life. good luck!!!
