Hello,
I'm getting closer to the time I will be moving to Asia, and I'm trying to find the answers to my questions. The chance of me being transferred by my job is slim, so I'm wondering if I can come to Hong Kong on three months on my passport, and look for employment then? Will my Filipina fiance be able to stay (live) with me during that time, while we are still not married? Lastly, do you know if flats are rented month to month, or only a year contract? I know you aren't Immigration, but I'm trying to find the answers to my questions, and I'm having a difficult time trying to get them. Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
David Bradford

Hi David....
In regards to your queries and I may be wrong but surely someone will correct me if I am.
You can come to Hong Kong with your passport for 3 months, no problem. Finding a job on the other hand, it depends on your field of work. 1. If you plan to stay you will need to find a company to sponsor your work visa. And unless you have a special trate that specifically requires your skill ti will be tough, a company here can hire a local on a local package and not have to put out extras for an expat.
Your Filipina fiance is on the same ship as you. Unless you get a company to sponsor your visa and get married to her she will not be able to remain in the country. Every 3 months she will have to exit the country unless she finds employment to sponsor her to stay as well. Otherwise if you get a work visa and get married, she can then apply for a dependant visa on your behalf.
Service apartments are rented month to month. Most other flats are rented mainly as a 2 year leases and you may tend to find some that will rent from year to year but most are individual landlords and your choices are limited.
Hope that helps...let us know if you have any other questions. Good Luck!!

I think there could be an added complication for your fiancee. PH nationals can stay for only up to 14 days without a visa. So she would need to leave/re-enter every 2 weeks and it wouldn't take long for mmigration to work out that something is amiss. The full visa requirements for every nationality are available on the Immigration Department website:
http://www.immd.gov.hk
Click on 'FAQ' on the menu at the left of the screen and you'll see an option for 'Visas'. It will also include the limitations for yourself.
