Hi Everybody

I work for a playgroup and recently they have been talking about putting cameras into every room including the staff room. Now I was just wondering is this legal??? Do we have any rights to say no to this??

Anyones advise would be really appreciated :)

Under the privacy ordinance your employer must inform you of any proposed monitoring (when, where etc), the purpose of the monitoring must be stated clearly and it must be reasonable for monitoring to be allowed to occur. I think the installation of cameras would not be considered enough notice and they would need ot issue you with a policy. They must ensure that all data collected is kept private and secure.

If it is too extensive you may challenge it. Ie in staff rooms where it is designed for you to rest, then this may not be considered reasonable.

Covert monitoring is only allowed when there is sufficient suspicion of unlawful activity.
