My baby boy is having problems with his day naps. He sleeps only for 10 mins, maximum 20 mins before waking up, crying. This problem started two days ago. He would not get a good nap despite my efforts of putting him into sleep through the day. By the end of the day, he is so overtired, he becomes terribly cranky.
However, he manages to sleep for 4 hours from 8pm to 12 midnight, before waking for a feed. He would wake up again at 3am then again at 6am.
It is so heart wrenching to see him not able to sleep. I'm at a total lost.
Any views would be much appreciated.

How old is he? Are you certain you are burping him well? If you put him down with gas in his tummy, it might make him feel uncomfortable as he sleeps. If you are sure there is no gas in his tummy, you might try swaddling him. Some very young babies seem to miss the sensory stimulation of being continually held and rocked inside mommy's tummy, and they do well when you wear them inside a baby sling. Is he rooting with his mouth? You can help him find his fingers to suck on or give him a dummy.

he is 11 weeks old. Don't seem to be a gas problem. Yes, I am swaddling him too.

daytime naps didn't come together for us until around 4 months... they are the LAST thing sleep wise that 'works' be gratefull you have a great night sleeper, and eventually the daytime naps will come...
I stressed about this a lot with #1, and now with #2 I am just prepared for 'messy' days!
You can try an extra bath... for example we give our baby a 40 degree deep heat relaxing bath every night before bed, and she loves it (our #1 did too), you could try adding an extra bath around lunchtime, and then put baby down for an afternoon nap, it might help.

Agree with crj that day time naps weren't 'in shape' till around 4 months. He used to wake up after 20 min or so crying and screaming and unable to settle back to sleep. And you are really lucky that he sleeps well at night. Mine used to wake up several times between 8-11pm at that age. When he grows older he will be able to sleep longer stretch, automatically. Not to worry :)

thanks crj for being encouraging. I am worried becuase he was doing well since birth with day time naps until yesterday. Worried if something is bothering him...paranoid I guessed.
Still waking up at 3am in the morning. A key reason I think is because he is not feeding well at midnight.
Babies are so unpredictable

To add...
I stressed with #1 and tried hard to get him on a daytime nap routine... I work full time and have meetings so needed a feeding/sleep schedule to be able to do my job and breast feed.
My friend was totaly relaxed (she doesn't work) and just let her baby do whatever in the day.
They both got on the same daytime nap routine, the same time... and hers was a lot less stress and a lot less painful!!
Focus on the nighttime sleep, and try to relax about the daytime...

blackout curtains might help. i never thought it would but after my normally 7-7 kid started having some issues, i darkened our curtains and that helped alot for us.

i'm also working out from home so having him on a good routine definitely helps but of course no such luck.
he is great with his 8pm-midnight, could be due to little sleep in the day.
may i ask what do u do with a 11 week old boy when he is not asleep? other than tummy time, I just carry him around.
