I am looking for the bank with the best basic savings account rate. I have been to HSBC but am not that impressed. Any ideas? The US banks seem to offer much better rates.

The banks vary widely, sometimes by the day and by the currency. However so do their rules and their convenience. Not quite certain whether I can make specific recommendations on this site, but check some of the big "Asian Regional" banks whose HQ countries are elsewhere in Asia. Note that Bank of America is now gone, at the retail level at least, so that does not give you a lot of other US-based choices. The one obvious alternative to B of A here is highly retail-oriented, however. Presume you are talking of bank branches in HK.

HSBC Australia a while ago was offering a great rate for online banking... check that too.

Local/smaller banks usually offer better rates. Also, BOC's rates are usually much better than HSBC.

Hi,
I would love to know if anybody has found a high/higher interest rate online savings account! ING HK does not have online savings and I would like to keep HK currency. Anyone?
