Has anyone stayed at the YMCA Salisbury in Hong Kong? We have friends visiting us in China this summer, and we would like to stay in Hong Kong for a few days. For some reason, rates are rather expensive during that time, and we have heard that the YMCA is nice. Are the Harbor View Rooms worth it? We have previously stayed in the Intercontinental, Renaissance, and Novotel in Hong Kong, but they pricier than our friends would like to commit to during that time. I know that there are cheaper places than the YMCA, but it has a really great location for the $$$.

I did stay for 1 nite during a layover before CNY hols.
This is a Y, so despite the rates, the single standard room that I took is small, very basic, bed is not that great, but clean. This Y is priced differently due to the locality.
If you intend to stay for more days, then it is worthwhile to pay for the Harbour View. I believe that the Harb View rooms are better, but dont compare to the hotels that you quoted above.
Their restaurants are decent, but you can always nip across to Peninsula Hotel for their rests/high tea.
Also, check whether breakfast is included, as some online bookings charge a lower rate but comes without b/fast.

What kind of price range? Another site to check is http://www.zuji.com . Look at places zuji has starred as a "best value." HK rooms do fill up, and advance booking is better and seem to get better prices, IMO.

We've tried Zuji, and most of the other (english language) Asia-based sites. Most of the hotels that come up for a decent price in the TST area have questional reviews on sites like Tripadvisor.com. We've heard great things about the YMCA Salisbury, and we can get a discounted corporate rate through our company. It's a really great location too...I just wanted to verify that some of the things we had heard were accurate.

Okay, well I've looked at a room but never stayed there. They seem decent and clean, large enough, if just a tiny bit common, but a lot less expensive than many of the other places you could choose. If I were doing it, I think I'd splurge for the harbor view if possible. Plus, they do have some long stay rates? I've also been told that they have a decent western breakfast. Also, don't forget that any hotel adjacent to an MTR is going to offer a lot of convenience because transportation in HK is so good.

I paid HKD800 for the single room, so if you can get Harbour view at corp rate, this will be a plus. You will need to book early as it is popular due to the location.
