Blackberry or similar?

I want a new mobile phone with very simple p.c. functions like email/calender/address book. I don't want too many bells and whistles as I will never use them. Also needs to be usable all over the world.

Any suggestions?

blackberry7290 is your best choice!

Both poor suggestions, as neither phone has 3G and, hence, won't work in "all over the world" (assuming your world includes Japan and Korea).

If you are looking for a blackberry unit, then the Pearl is a good choice for a smartphone, or Blackberry 8800 which is the newest one and has 3g etc...

Another good choice is Nokia N95, however its quite pricey

Blackberry 8800 is not 3G, but it does come with built in GPS and Hong Kong maps - slow, but useful none the less

For simple POP3 mail, calendar and address book most of the better mobiles will include all these functions. A decent 3G phone will satisfy all requirements and pretty much be usable all over the world. Gone are the days when you needed a BB or top notch PDA to perform these functions.

miklosc: You are missing the point. In some countries (notably Japan and South Korea) one can only roam with 3G mobile, as there is no GSM 2G/2.5G network.

For most other countries, it is matter of bands (which are the equivalent of frequencies) with the US using the 850 and 1900 MHz bands and most other countries the 900 and 1800 MHz bands.
