Hi - I'm new here. Sorry if this is a re-post of this topic, but I couldn't find any discussions on this topic. We plan to move to South Horizons this summer - to one of the 1000+sq. ft flats. Question: How big are the master bedrooms? I understand there are 3 BR flats and 4 BR flats. Would someone be sooooo kind as to measure their room??? I can't find this info anywhere on the Internet. We need to decide if we can bring our king size bed to HK or not!!! Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!

We have 930+ square foot apartment. 3 bedrooms, plus maid's bedroom (tiny). Master bedroom: we have two single beds pushed together (=approx. kingsize). It's a squeeze past the end of the bed(s) in front of the built-in wardrobe. Small walking space on far side, a bit more space on side closest to the door and bathroom. It's fine for us. We put the double bed (originally from the master bedroom) in one of the other two bedrooms and use the third bedroom as a study. We don't have a live-in maid, so that room is a bit of a junk room :( . Great sea views from lounge and bedrooms. We rented a furnished apartment -- for us, it was better than purchasing or shipping furniture from home. If you rent from phase iv, most, if not all, of the apartments have built-in wardrobes which are great to have. If I could afford it, I'd rent a penthouse -- they have a balcony and a lot more space.

I lived there before. I don't have the measurements but from memory a king size bed would probably take up alot of the master bedroom. The other bedrooms are quite a bit smaller. I would recommend a double/queen bed so that you have room leftover to move around and have other pieces of furniture such as chest of drawers etc.

Thanks so much for the replies! I wondered about the built-in wardrobes - whether there would be much room left for a king size bed. We have 2 young kids who like to crawl into bed with us sometimes (especially when they've never heard HK style thunder before!)- hence the "need" for a king size bed. We may just have to send them back to their own room! Oh well...

Do the smaller rooms also have built-in wardrobes? Would there be space for a chest of drawers (32"W x 19"D)?

Dear Canuck Mommy,
Sounds like someone's found the accomodations for you. Are you moving here as a teacher? A lot of teachers live in South Horizons.

Smaller rooms have built-ins in our apartment, and I think that is true for most/all apartments in phase iv (towers 25-33A). With a single bed in each small room, there is room for a chest of drawers -- the size you quote would be OK in one of the rooms, but probably not in both. In our master bedroom, we have small bedside chests of drawers at the head of the bed. Why not wait until you come and purchase furniture locally when you know what space you have? A lot of furniture that fits well in a house or larger apartment won't fit in here and then what do you do with it? We have supplemented the built-ins with locally purchased furniture -- there's plenty of choice here.
