I've not used IBM Laptop, but I heard that when the os booting ,u can push the blue button named IBMVantage,then a menu appears and just follow the instructions ,but bachup all the important data first! Just Goolge IBMVantage to find more clues!

check - there may be a facility on the machine to create restore disks, a hidden restore partition, or something else. Do an internet search (google or whatever) to see if you can find instructions/guidance.

It's always good to have a mirror of your disk - just in case the internal disk gets damaged...

The IBM button also lets you create the boot CDs - another good idea, in case you want to upgrade the internal disk.
