Video surveillance

I've recently started teaching English in a learning center and have just found out there are video cameras in the classroom. I was not told about this in the interview, I asked my boss what they where for and she confirmed she uses them to monitor the teachers.

I'm new to Hong Kong and just wondered if this was normal, I have previously taught in the U.K. and this was not legal.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thnx

I think in HK they are legal provided you have been told about them. And unless (a) they were hidden, and (b) their existence was deliberately kept from you then I don't think you can do much other than resign if it gets to you that much. Good luck with getting to know the rest of HK!

It is legal in Hong Kong if they install webcams in the work area to monitor staff, students or customers. Unless they are hidden or being installed in places like the lavatories or changing rooms.
