We are currently renting an apartment on the southside and the water in our apartment has been a brownish yellow colour.
We have had the landlord's plumbers over numerous times to try and fix the problem but at this stage the only bandaid solution they can come up with is to replace the water filters weekly!
I am not happy with this as I am concerned at the actual water quality and what effect it is having on my family and also the weekly disruption of plumbers coming to the house to replace the filters???
I think the water issue is mainly as a result of the building being older (70's??) and I am not sure that it is actually able to be fixed by an individual owner. Unfortunately we don't really know anyone else in the building to ask whether this is happening to them or not.
The landlord has indicated that this is a 'hong kong issue' particularly on the southside.
My question is this:
Does anyone on the southside have water quality issues and is this normal?
Does anyone know anywhere where I could get water tested to see what is in it and whether it is dangerous?
Should I just move out as this is really unacceptable? Obviously I don't want to move due to the inconvenience but would in a second if this water was even remotely dangerous.
Thanks

Thanks Jan - but we do have bonaqua water for drinking. It is more a concern for bathing and washing dishes etc as at its worst, the water is yellow - almost the colour of tea and there are three filters installed in the actual piping system. I don't think there is any better filtering system available? The water isn't this colour all the time but what I am concerned about what I can't see - if you know what I mean?

I have seen a shower head filter system which they were trying to sell for using when bathing babies. They claimed it produced very clean water. I think it was at the big Wingon store in Central.
We live Southside also and get brown water after they clean the water tanks in our apartment complex. This soon clears if you run the tap for awhile so not the problem you have.
I have been told that the discolouration comes from rust/metals in the old pipes - not sure how factual this is.
