Buying a car

I am looking to buy a new car in Hong Kong and am wondering how one would typically negotiate the price, is there a certain amount the dealer will typically come down. The car will most likely be a Lexus.

If you are not permanent in HK...you can get great used cars for cheap without the luxury tax if you are a first time buyer.

Sorry..let me clarify. I am a resident as well but not a permanent ID holder. When we decided to buy a car we were told that there is a luxury tax imposed on all new vehicles. We personally never looked into it as we didn't really want to buy brand new so I am not sure how much it is. Plus registration etc.etc..Seemed to be quite costly.


If you are not the type that want the latest and the greatest and not sure how long you are going to be here then the used car route is great here. Everyone I know have bought used cars from other xpats that were leaving Hong Kong, cars are well maintained and run great and most just want to sell and get it off their hands so you get a great deal. We bought ours for cheap and it has been fantastic!!
