I was approached by salespersons from a company called "WINTERTHUR" involved in portfolio management. They offered a proposal where I could invest money on a monthly basis in several overseas funds. Is WINTERTHUR an established company in Hong Kong? Just need some advice as I am not used to investing in HK

Winterthur is part of AXA, the global insurance company. Their website: http://www.winterthur.com.hk/home/en/wlhk_home.htm
They are a bona fide outfit with offices around the world.
That said, whether their investment products are any good is another matter entirely :-)
As always, buyer beware! And be sure to get advice from a number of companies before signing anything. Insurance companies have a reputation in some quarters for charging excessive fees. I have no idea about these guys however, but do read the small print.
Furthermore, if any investment type company is trying to sell you something based on their past performance, don't get blinded by seemingly fantastic performance over a short time period (say last year, or last 2 years). Look for 5 - 10 year performance consistently above the market average. Everyone has a lucky year now and then :-)
Personally, I'm always wary of people who approach me trying to see me something. It often seems that they don't have my own best interests at heart! Remember that salesman only make money by selling stuff!
Regards and good luck, Anthony.
