I have a very stressful job, and I eat to release the stress. I loath the way I look in the mirror, and I can't enjoy sex anymore. My house is a mess, I can't sleep nor function normal when surrounded by people. I am a size 48 now, and I was size 38 last year.
Recently, I've been crying uncontrollably in office. I felt that I am not myself anymore. Went to a doctor in Shanghai, very expensive and she wouldn’t give me medication. I need help.
Had 2 shot of whisky last night to help me go to sleep.

I'd agree with Marina. Sounds like you're suffering from depression and the weight gain/sleeplessness is because of that.
What medication do you want? I'd talk to a doctor about getting some anti-depressants or possibly a referral to a counselor.

45828s, agree with Marina, call Shanghai Lifeline, there is someone who will listen to you.

You would be amazed what you might find by having your thyroid level(s) checked. You might also have insulin resistance as people have both usually with something called Polysystic Ovarian Disease also known as P C O Syndrome.
I was diagnosed with it a few years ago finally ! and am on meds to conrol what went haywire. The thryoid problem can seriously make you depressed and or irritable.
Do persist. Of course over eating is a problem but you may find out why you feel more hungry.

I asked for anti-depressant, but my shrink refused, she said I need to overcome it with my will power, and ask me to do stupid esteem exercise (like tell myself I am beautiful every morning when I look at mirror).
I just want something to help me to get back on track, it's really affecting my job performance now. and my JOB is my EVERYTHING! After I am on my feet I will then be able to continue with her esteem exercise and afford to pay her fee.

Self esteem exercises can help, but this could be more than that. I am shocked that your doc dismissed you in such a manner. Can you go to another one? Depression can be more than just feeling low, it can be a chemical brain imbalance.
I'd try to get a second opinion.

It is just bogus that you only need mental exercize.
Chemical embalances are as real as trauma's are and you need a good blood workup and someone to listen to ALL of your symptoms, not just blood and urine tests.
Just take charge, not all doc's are right for you and I hope you don't just give in.
Tia is right, self esteem exercizes go hand in hand with other treatments.
All the best.

Any place i can go to? how should I approach the problem with the doctor?
All my family think I am just whining, and I just lack of self discipline. It really hurts when your closest cannot understand your pain.

OH FFS!! (sorry)
Depression is a real, serious illness. Your family making light of it is only make things worse in the long run.
This is more than lacking self discipline. This is NOT something to be taken lightly.
Write a list of all the problems you have been having and how long they have been going on for. Write a list of what you eat/exercise daily. Make a schedule of your work and family chores. Keep a diary of how you feel daily (good or bad or really bad).
Take all this to the doc. If he/she STILL thinks this is 'all in your head', find another one. There has to be some decent docs in Shanghai. You need a good doc who will listen to you, who understand that depression is a serious illness and that treatment is more than telling yourself you're a good person.
I have friends who used to live in Shanghai. I'll email them and ask if they know a decent doc.

How about recommending someone/anyone in Guangzhou?
I downed a glass of bleach with my Cabernet Sauvignon last Sunday.
That I think warrants a trip to the shrink.

Have you tried Shanghai Eastern Hospital's International Medical centre, they get good reports, also there is a new psychiatry hospital opened up there recently, Western doctors, not sure of the address but I saw them on one of the expat websites...but above all dear please don't delay and SEEK HELP asap, I think we are all worried for you!

45828s...you're really in a great position to seek help, given how commercially viable Shanghai is. Here in Guangzhou, cor, absolutely hopeless.
I was about to suggest, albeit tame and non-chemical, how about relying on communities, interest-groups etc...hobbies etc? Meeting like-minded people who are more or less along the same lines as yourself when it comes to common interests? Indulging in something you like with other people might just be a good distraction. Like I said, it sounds tame, but it's a start.
I don't have that luxury here in GZ - reasons which will fill up an entire dissertation. And that just drains the hell outta people around me who prolly do genuinely care.
I'd like to still pursue medical help here in GZ if possible. But hey, take the plunge in Shanghai. Avoid the bars though. I know my pitfall to self-pity/destruction is through alcohol.

Hi there,
I have been through something like this myself. Two years of wondering where my vibrant happy 'self' had gone before I was finally diagnosed with graves disease.. Unfortunately by this time it had gotten much worst. Basically its an auto-immune disease where your immune system attacks your thyriod. I would get your thyriod tested and all the other tests you can possibly do to make sure you don't have something like this.
Also, I would get as much 'you' therapy as possible. Go for walks in nature.. proven to ease depression.. go to a counsellor.. just have someone listen to you.. sounds like you need and deserve it, get plenty of rest, treat yourself to fresh fruit and vegies, and chocolate if you want it.. and basically do things that you enjoy.. take every step as it comes and each day at a time.. get some acupuncture and a massage every week... its just important at the moment to have 'you' time.. Its amazing how much we beat ourselves up in our heads and how we can reverse that by doing and thinking differently.
I wouldn't take anti-depressants until you had the tests and took some natural therapies and counselling... those pills have some pretty powerful side effects.

If you ever go to HK, go to see Dr Lauren Bramley on the 9/f at Pacific House in Central - she's great. She helped me with depression and when I felt so awful I didn't want to go on. The number is: 28776068 She'll sit down and listen to you for as long as you need and she takes a holistic approach, recommending exercise, natural supplements, vitamins as well as antidepressants if needed. She'll make you feel cared for. I DO hope you get help soon. Keep us updated - depression can really suck. Please get help.
