I am employed full time,no contract, with a multi national company.
I am an australian with a superannuation fund in australia.
I've been told i'm not eligible for local MPF - can someone pls confirm if that's true.
thanks

Not true. Local MPF is obligatory. Why don't you have a contract?

It is not mandatory for you to participate as you are a "member" of an overseas fund - don't think this has been defined further, however, if your employer does not contribute to the Australia fund make noise, as you are losing out 5% up to $20k.
It appears you simply don't have a written contract, you must have a verbal agreemeent. If a multinational company, ask for a written contract and MPF contributions.

Thanks for that - I have a letter of employment that says if I'm eligible for MPF the company will pay it.
HR is saying that legally, because i have my own fund in Australia, the company does not need to may any contributions.
Don't want to make waves necessarily - but do want what i'm entitled to.

Sorry, thought you indicated you didn't have a contract (letter of employment = contract).
Appears at law you are eligible, just not mandatory to join ("exempt" does not equal "ineligible") - see Q4 and following of the attached -
http://www.mpfahk.org/english/quicklinks/quicklinks_faqs/quicklinks_faqs_emers.html#4
So read the letter carefully, does it use "eligible" or "need to"? Then you can determine your entitlements.

What we have here is a prime example of the need for you to be very careful when taking responses on a forum such as this as gospel - two completely opposite responses. Obviously in this case the response by spaceren is correct, but had it been a different situation and you acted on the incorrect advice given first...
And for the record I've been working in HK now for in excess of 5 years and have never had to join the MPF (due to my continued membership of the eligible fund in my home country).
