I have been reading some of the threads to find a good quality reasonably priced hotel for us but am confused. I want to secure only one room for 2 adults, 2 kids -(kids can share a double bed if needed) in a hotel with good kids facilities. Can anyone recommend a good hotel that will not require us to book two rooms?

I stayed at Shangri La - Tanjung Aru in KK and we had rollaway bed and cot in the room together with a double bed. We nearly got conned at Guest Relations to upgrade to a bigger room as we would be somewhat squashed in our room - after haggling prices we didnt thank goodness because the room was perfectly OK with plenty of room. So my guess is there are rooms that would accommodate you all in one room.
I did actually complain to the Manager about this sales tactic so be warned - check your rooms first.
Anyway, I highly rate Tanjung Aru and would without a doubt would go back there - in fact we may this year again if we cant find something else in budget. We found KK very reasonably priced and even had a babysitter every night HK$15 an hour approx. so we could enjoy our dinner in peace without the baby. The staff organising the daily activities around the hotel/pool area were fantastic. Playroom was also good and organise a party on Friday where the kids act out a fairytale.
The Shangri La - Rasa Risa is also very good I understand from friends. We chose Tanjung because its near the town so you dont have to stay in the confines of the hotel in the evening - you can take a short cab ride to the waterfront where there are a load of restaurants near the filipina market which closes at 6pm and isnt buggy friendly!
Any more help let me know.

we always book a triple room, and just check in. NEVER had problems. Unless your kids are over 10 years old.... it's really none of their business. The problem is there would be ONE short cup, one short towel, one short pillow.... etc. Intended for 3 people .... but my kids never use ANY of the hotel's amenities.
