Reasonably priced Ceiling Fans?

Actually the $1000 you got is pretty goo if that is including installation and the lights. Otherwise you buy the same SMC ceiling fan from a little shop for $500-$600 and by the time you pay a guy to come install and buy the lights you are just about at $1000 anyway. Other option is buy used from the xpats who are leaving but in that case it's a hit or miss.

I've search high and low when I was looking and the SMC are the best for their price. So far all 4 of the ones I got are nice and quiet. Forget about Lifes a Breeze in Horizon Plaza, I couldn't find one there for $3000HK so if cheap is what you are going for then I'd go with the SMC.

Good Luck.

Happy coincidence - on Saturday I was in:

Sun Wah Electrical Co, G/F 12 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central (Tel. 2543 8098)

and saw they sell plain white metal SMC fans starting at an amazingly low $325 for a small (36") model. The larger ones didn't cost much more. They also had wooden ones festooned with lights etc.

It's a tiny electrical shop - you'll see the A4 poster showing photos of fans behind the counter. Really nice woman there, who spoke perfect English.

Yes...Thames is correct I couldn't remember the name of the shop. I found this place after I bought mine. My girlfriend bought her fans there. It cost $600 for the 50" fans and about $500 for the 42". However they do not install and they do not come with the lightbulbs so you will have to find someone to install and buy the lightbulbs. Will be worth it if you buy more than one as it will save you a few hundred dollars..
