My LO is still not pointing. What should I do, should I be concerned? He can pick up little objects such as raisins with his thumb and first finger while his other three fingers are enclosed. He only sticks his whole hand out to point but have not seen him point with his first finger. What to do?

hmmm....all my baby books are with my sis-in-law who popped recently - is pointing meant to be a milestone?

if you are vey worried, do check with the paed.

I think I remember our Dr asking about pointing at 12 months, but I don't quite remember. They all do things at their own pace. my son didn't wave until after 12 months, and I realized that's because we never waved at him. Check out this site for a complete list of milestones: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babydevelopment/6634.html

s1, ask your paed if you are really concerned but my daughter, now at 20 months, still don;'t point either. I too wondered, but only fleetingly, cos I realise my husband and I don't have the habit of pointing at things either so how can she learn? I now point at pictures in her books and point her body parts and I think she catches on within a day!

Incidentally, I was told by the my paed not to begin worrying of delay in milestone achievements until they are ~2.5 years old when syndromes like autism, mental retardation, learning difficulties manifest clearly and can be tested.

My daughter was developmentally slow for almost everything, turning on her tummy, crawling, walking, and still can't call me mummy although she can call everyone else, including the neighbour's name! So go figure.

How old is your kid? Perhaps you want to enrol him/her to a playgroup class - I certainly found that my daughter picked up more things from the playgroup teacher than from me (I must admit I am not a good teacher).
