ours is a hand me down....but my sis-in-law bought a mothercare one for my mum's place when she babysits. no complaints so far. i see lots of graco ones but i think it's not cheap?

i think as long as price is reasonable and adheres to safety standards, you don't need a fancy one because your kid will outgrow it soon enough when he/she starts crawling and the playpen is too small for exploration!

We didn't buy one. My sister bought it for my niece (2 months older than my baby) and told me not to get one. She said it took too much space and baby didn't have the opportunity to explore her surroundings when put in it. It was like a cage for them. My sis uses it to throw in all her baby clothes once they come out of the dryer ;-)

But one good thing about play pen would be when you go on holidays and have to stay at a hotel. If the hotel does not have a cot, you could use the playpen as one.

we have a graco.

but people like the "baby dan" or playard idea a bit more...you can make a fenced in area any shape you like with these pieces that interlock and yet stand up. So it can be a bigger space than the smaller area of your playpen. Depends on what you need it for.

We don't have a big flat. I don't want another piece of 'funiture' occupying extra space either. But also because we have a small flat, we can't leave baby crawling on the floor as he'll easily touch on things that he shouldn't touch. Had a discussion with hubby and Mom and they both think I should get a playpen and put him in while helper go make milk/ toilet.

HKCC - that's what I'm considering too. A playyard seems to have a longer life span than a playpen. But have to check if I can fit a baby dan in the dining room.

Hi Nicher,

How are you? How's your little one?

I have a Graco playpen, I use it for travelling and for times that I am alone (or helper is alone) with baby at home when we need to be away from baby for a short period of time.

Just buy the basic model is fine, as I believe your little one is getting a bit too big for the changing tray and the upper nap basket, so just a basic model without accessories is fine.

Hi Chrispy - bub is 6.5 mos old now! Healthy and cheerful little boy he is! And how's your little girl? I remember she's a tall girl right?

Seems like everyone vote for the Graco. I may as well get one. Yes my bub is too big for the changing tray so guess a simple one will do.

Hi Nicher,

Yes Graco is a good choice - glad to hear your boy is doing fine - my girl turned 7 months last week and yes she's a tall girl. She's about 76cm and weights ~21lbs, a big girl!

I got a playyard second hand from someone on this site, its GREAT. I've set it up to cordon off an area in the living room, not surround bubs, but just as a separator. It works a treat and he loves it! He uses it to pull himself up and cruise as well. Because of the lattice type work, you can tie it to fixed or heavy furniture and make it any shape you like. We have only 6 panels, and I'd have been glad of 8, but 6 works just fine.

Hi Chrispy - Wowow 21 pounds in 7 mos! She's really BIG! I guess my boy is just 17 pounds or so.

Firsttimemom, what brand is your playyard? Is it something like the babydan?
